Following are a few Fast ForWord demos so you can see what the game looks like. Following each Fast ForWord demo is a brief description of what it is working on. The Foundations Series is for Elementary School, and the Literacy Series is for Middle School, High School, and adults.
Foundations 1 – Hoop Nut
- Task: Listen to a target sound. Click on the character that presents the same sound.
- Language and Reading Skills: Phonological fluency and Phonological memory.
- Cognitive Skills Developed: Working memory, focused attention, auditory processing.
Foundations 1 – Sky Gym
- Task: Identify a sequence of sounds by clicking buttons that correspond to the sound sweeps.
- Language and Reading Skills: Listening accuracy and auditory sequencing.
- Cognitive Skills Developed: Working memory and visual symbol-sound associations for long term memory, sustained and focused attention, auditory processing and sequencing ability.

- Task: Click the picture that represents the object identified in the exercise.

Foundations 2 – Jumper Gym
- Task: Identify a sequence of sounds by clicking buttons that correspond to the sound sweeps.

Foundations 2 – Polar Planet
- Task: Listen to a target word pronounced. As a series of similar words are pronounced, select the target word when it is present again.

- Cognitive Skills Developed: Working memory, sustained and focused attention, auditory, visual and cross-modal processing.
Foundations 2 – Cosmic Reader
- Task: Listen to a story and answer questions that relate to the story presented, identify the picture that has the most accurate representation of the sentence, follow verbal instructions to identify and manipulate objects of various colors and sizes.
- Language and Reading Skills: Vocabulary, English language conventions, Listening comprehension, Following directions.
- Cognitive Skills Developed: Working memory and visual symbol-sound associations from long term memory, sustained and focused attention, auditory and linguistic processing, sequencing ability.
Literacy – Spin Master
- Task: Listen to a target syllable, then click the highlighted turntable when the target syllable is presented.
- Language and Reading Skills: Phonological fluency, Phonological accuracy, Phonological memory.
- Cognitive Skills Developed: Working memory, focused attention, auditory processing.
Literacy – Space Racer
- Task: Identify each sweep in the sequence by clicking the up and down arrows in the same sequence as the sounds are presented.
- Language and Reading Skills: Listening accuracy and Auditory sequencing.
- Cognitive Skills Developed: Long-term and working memory, focused attention, auditory processing, sequencing.
Literacy – Lunar Tunes
- Task: Listen to one word/syllable from each speaker on a grid. Match up each pair of speakers that play the same word/syllable. When all pairs are matched, clear the grid.

- Cognitive Skills Developed: Working memory, focused attention, auditory processing.
Literacy Advanced – Meteor Ball
- Task: Listen to a spoken word, recognize and select the target word that is presented aurally and in writing within a series of different words.

- Cognitive Skills Developed: Memory, attention, processing.
Literacy Advanced – Laser Match
- Task: Using both auditory and visual clues, match pairs of words within grids of varying size.
- Language and Reading Skills: Word analysis, Phonological awareness.
- Cognitive Skills Developed: Memory, attention, processing.
Reading 1 – Buzz Fly
- Task: Read sentences independently and fill in the black in each one. Listen and read along to a story or non-fiction passage, then choose the right picture to answer questions about the story/passage.
- Language and Reading Skills: Paragraph comprehension.
- Cognitive Skills Developed: Working memory/long-term memory, divided attention/sustained attention, auditory and visual processing, sequencing.
Reading 2 – Dog Bone
- Task: Listen and read along to a story or non-fiction passage, then choose the right word to answer questions about the story/passage. Re-read the stories independently and answer new questions about them.
- Language and Reading Skills: Paragraph comprehension.
- Cognitive Skills Developed: Working memory/long-term memory, divided attention, auditory and visual processing, sequencing.
Reading 3 – Chicken Dog
- Task: Complete the spelling of spoken word – part of the written word is mising and the correct letter or letter combination is chosen from a group of visually and phonetically similar choices.
- Language and Reading Skills: Spelling, Letter-sound association, Decoding.
- Cognitive Skills Developed: Long-term memory/working memory, selective attention, auditory and visual processing.
